A Truly Provencale Experience in Auckland
Since 1999, St Tropez Restaurant has provided Aucklanders with a taste of Provence, in the heart of Parnell. Chef Jean-Christophe Varnier and his wife and Maitre d’ Simone Varnier have created a fantastic French restaurant with many classic dishes, and some excellent duck dishes. Originally from New Caledonia, Jean-Christophe has worked in France and for Michelin-starred restaurants , so he knows a thing or two about classic French cuisine.
The duck dishes on the menu are among our favourites: Duck Leg Confit in a Red Wine Jus, or traditional Cassoulet with confit duck, pork sausage, bacon, lamb & beans. Cooked from scratch over many hours, his diners benefit from Jean-Christophe’s patience as the Cassoulet is a mid-winter delight. The duck leg confit is cured with Jean-Christophe’s personal blend of salt & spices, prior to confit-ing and then cooking in a red wine jus – it is just delicious.
In line with all things French, St Tropez now offers a "Traiteur" or out-catering service. You can pop in a pick up a fresh or frozen dish from their extensive menu. A great idea when you need to provide a quality dinner, but at the end of your day there is no time to create it! Remember to pick up confit duck legs for your next dinner party – it will take the time out of the preparation, and they will reheat perfectly, and with a little time under the grill to crisp up the skin beautifully.
Salut!
